___________________________________________

The country of Selris is known for two things- their strong magic traditions, and their bloody and treacherous history. For over one thousand years, since it was founded, it has been through several wars, bloody thefts of power, and internal fighting in all of it's forms. However, with the main cause of those internal conflicts, the Dubois family, now either lying dead or scattered about the world, it has been able to climb back onto it's feet and has risen very quickly into a world power.

Centering around the last member of the Dubois family, Adele, and her Summoned Servant, a creature summoned by the family's main mage, that serves them loyally until it's death. Blessed with immortality, a Summoned Servant can only be killed by another Summoned Servant. Mayumi Aihara, Adele's Summoned Servant is not only a rare human Servant, but is also one of the oldest Servants to still exist. Now, trying to prove herself to her countrymen and trying to wipe the stains away from her family's reputation, Adele seeks to rebuild her house from scratch.

Mayumi Aihara was summoned from his home in Japan during the country's Edo Period and has been living in the country of Selris for over one thousand years, serving as the Summoned Servant of the Dubois family. Somewhat sarcastic in nature, he often comments that even if he could return back home now, there was no way he would ever be able to fit in again. He tends to be pretty laid-back, and doesn't get too surprised about anything, considering that he's seen so much in his long life. Primarily a sword fighter, he uses a broad sword, but can also handle short swords and daggers.

Mayumi is the oldest of the human Summon Servants, ever since his predecessors were killed around four hundred years ago during a great war. He doesn't really comment on his life before becoming a Summoned Servant, truthfully he can barely remember it anymore, it's been so long ago. He's rather sensitive about his age, and hates being forced to confront the fact that he is far older then the nineteen years he looks- it doesn't help that being ageless hasn't stopped his hair from turning gray. Because of his age, however, he acts as the leader of the other three human Summon Servants.

Mayumi's history as a Summoned Servant of the Dubois family is long and fairly interesting, involving several wars, in-family conflicts, affairs, fits of passion, and some rather unsavory characters, all that has lead the family to burn out, leaving behind one last member- his current master, Adele.

Adele Dubois is a fifteen year old girl, and is the last known living member of the noble Dubois family, which has had a history of great strife both with the Selris royalty, other countries, and itself. When Adele was young, half of the living members of the Dubois family were executed for treason, plotting to overthrow the current King and Queen so they could place their own ruler in as the figurehead. Much of the rest fell victim to the plague or fled the country, their fates unknown.

As such, Adele has mostly been raised by what servants the family had left- although they all moved away several years ago to serve other noble families, leaving the girl behind in the care of the family's Summoned Servant, Mayumi. Although by technicality, Adele is still a noble, she doesn't really act like one at all. She tends to have a more brash manner of speech and is quite capable of performing household tasks that most a noble would scoff at the thought of doing.

Adele wants to rebuild the Dubois family from the ground up, and get rid of the horrible reputation they have. As a mage of the fire element, she has dedicated herself to the Royal Family in hopes that if she fights for them, people will realize that the last Dubois member had nothing to do with the conspiracy that most of the rest of the family was in on. She gets along well with Mayumi, and views him like an older brother. When not on missions, she attends the Selris School for Mages.

Lorn Jackson is the second human Summoned Servant in Selris, who belongs to the Durand family. He was born in England around the height of the Industrial Revolution there, and was summoned when he was seventeen. Formerly, he was a factory worker and an orphan, so he didn't really mind being taken away from the place he was at. He has been serving the family for somewhere over four hundred years now. He arrived at the tail end of the great war, and missed most of the fighting. As such, the only other human Summoned Servant he knew before Benjamin came was Mayumi.

Lorn tends to be a long range type of attacker, preferring to stick with bows and arrows, and crossbows. If he must fight in close combat, he tends to lean towards pole arms and the like. He's fairly intelligent and has engrossed himself in the arts and literature of his new world and has taken to it the best out of all the human Summoned Servants. As the Servant of the Durand family, he is in the position to mingle with a lot of the more cultured folk.

Despite his Master family's tainted reputation, Lorn still looks up to Mayumi and respects him for not losing his head amidst the bloody, chaotic history that is the Dubois.

Benjamin "Ben" White is the latest human Summoned Servant to come to Selris, summoned from modern day America at sixteen. He is utterly out of place in the world he has been brought to, and often feels like a fish out of water. It doesn't help that the only other two people in his situation have been there so long that they don't care about trying to go back there anymore. He worries deeply about his younger sister and the rest of his family that he left behind when he was summoned. He is the Servant of the Laurent family, known as being the Royal Family's right hand.

Ben just really wants to go back home, and doesn't want to get caught up in Selris and it's people and has been desperately trying to search for a way to go back. He is kind of a meek boy, and doesn't know about the fact that he's expected to be able to fight battles and protect his Family. It doesn't really help that his Family is rather stuck up and snobbish, including his Summoner.

Jeanette Durand is the twenty year old daughter of the Durand family, a lower noble family that is well known for being a patron of the arts. Jeanette, however, had no gift for the arts and instead went on to studying magic. As the family's mage with the most potential, she was given the family's Summoned Servant, Lorn, when she turned thirteen. She uses the water element, directly contrasting that of Adele's fire. The two, however, get along well and have been friends for quite some time. As a more proper noble lady, she thinks Adele's personality is refreshing.

The Durand family is known for being good to commoners and will support the works of anyone, no matter from where or what status they hail, as long as they have talent. Their history has been one of staying outside of political conflict, and bringing about several new movements in both art and theater and are associated with the rise of many a great painter, sculptor, and actor.

Jeanette takes pride in her family's history and is proud of the fact that she was given Lorn. She gets along fairly well with him, but they don't have such a close relationship as Adele has with Mayumi.

Cyrille Laurent is the seventeen year oldest son of the Laurent family, who will take charge of it one day. He takes great pride in his family's position as a close confident to the Royal Family. He is often commented upon as being vain and something of a Casanova, who goes through more woman than most men will ever have in their lives. His good looks, combined with his strong skills as a Wind mage, make him very popular much to some people's annoyance.

Cyrille doesn't think too highly of commoners or the nobles who favor them and thinks that Summoned Servants are simply tools to be used- even the human ones. He treats Ben as such, and is irritated that he won't obey his commands and doesn't seem befitting for such a noble family. He is shallow and vain, and often seems to act as if he doesn't have an ounce of common sense in his body.

Prince Gilbert "Gil" Furst is the eighteen year old prince of Selris, who is second in line for the throne should something happen to his older brother. At the time, however, he is somewhat AWOL, and nobody knows where he is after he slipped out of the palace. He never really seemed to fit as a Royal type, and instead spends his days wandering the country, disguised as someone else. Although he is a very strong earth mage, he can never really be serious and gets bored easily if he isn't doing something.

Luisa Sala is a princess from the neighboring kingdom of Requincista, a seventeen year old girl who was supposed to marry Gilbert before he ran away. Frustrated, she has come to Selris herself in order to try and find her missing fiancee, knowing that she will not be able to take the throne in her country if she cannot find someone to be married to. Her parents are also eager to find the missing prince, because their marriage would represent a strong union between the small nation of Requincista and the powerful nation of Selris.

Headstrong and impatient, she is a rather spoiled noble girl and it shows. Luisa has a good heart though, and has her moments of kindness towards other people. As a princess, she has much to learn before she can become a Queen, however. She came to Selris with her family's Summoned Servant, a elf girl named Emelina. The two have a decent relationship, though Luisa frustrates Emelina sometimes.

Emelina Del Olmo is the Elven Summoned Servant of the Sala family, the Royal Family of Requincista. As rare as human Summoned Servants are, elves are even rarer, and are viewed as a sign of immense magical power on the part of the Summoner. It is said that a family that can summon an elven Summoned Servant will have good fortune for many centuries to come. Good at hand to hand combat and with using knives, Emelina doesn't talk much, but she knows how to wield words just as well as any kind of weapon. Sharp as a tack, nothing slips by her.

Whitney White is Ben's younger sister, a fourteen year old girl who he was forced to leave behind when he was summoned to Selris. They had a very close relationship and she was devastated when he was lost to her and is looking for the reason why he vanished so suddenly. Her investigation has currently taken an interesting turn, however, and she's not sure if it's a path she should go down- but in the end, the choice winds up being made for her.
